On October 17, Sotheby's announced the upcoming auction of a 303.10-carat yellow diamond, the Golden Canary . The Fancy Deep Brownish-Yellow diamond is one of the largest faceted diamonds in the world and the largest flawless diamond ever graded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
The miraculous diamond previously weighed just over 407 carats, earning it the name “ Incomparable Diamond .”
Reshaped from its original shield shape into a classic pear shape , the Golden Canary is now deeper in color, brighter in tone, and more elegant in profile , rightfully claiming its place in the pantheon of exceptional diamonds. The Golden Canary will headline Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York on December 7, 2022 , with an estimate of approximately $15 million and offered with no reserve, with bids starting at $1.

Given the high global interest in a treasure of this nature, the diamond will be exhibited on a world tour . Presented at Sotheby's galleries in Dubai, it will then be shown in Taipei, Geneva and Hong Kong.

In addition to the global unveiling of the gem, which translates to “Golden Canary” in English, Sotheby’s Dubai has also launched an exhibition showcasing a selection of rare luxury objects. Open to the public until November 4 , the exhibition features an exceptional selection of Hermès Birkin and Kelly bags hand-embellished and lovingly transformed by luxury brand Jay Ahr . This is the first time the collection has been exhibited in the Middle East. Lebanese jewelry designer Gaelle Khouri will showcase her new collection, a series of sensual pieces in yellow, white, or rose gold, often embellished with diamonds and gemstones. The exhibition will also feature the evocative contemporary photographic works of Moroccan artist Lalla Essaydi , known for her depiction of Arab female identity.
